I have two books that I am just loving this month! (Well, after reading Fifty Shades of Grey! but that is another conversation over a few glasses of wine!) One is, "52 Small Changes" by Brett Blumenthal and the other is, "The Starch Solution", by John McDougall, M.D.
This week in our 52 Small Changes the focus is on sleep! You can't be
thin, healthy and feel good if you don't get enough sleep! It may take
you some time to break your sleep bad habits, but the rewards will be
worth it!
AND, I am so loving "The Starch Solution" by Dr. McDougall! Some of you may know that I want to lose 20 pounds. I
didn't exercise for about 15 years and it took a pound or two a year for
it to catch up with me. I have been exercising now for over a year,
however, the weight is still there. I am working on improving my eating
habits. I have eliminated alot of bad habits, but there is still much
room for improvement in my diet. I am just like you! A good friend of
mine had a tremendous result from "The Dukan Diet" which is much like
the Atkins diet -- it is alot of meat eating. I resisted it for a while
and then out of impatience, decided to give it a try.
Well, I lost weight and it was not hard. I ate meat and started adding dairy back into my diet. I am amazed as how this is my business to pay attention to my body, I really didn't notice I was not feeling well. As I began to read "The Starch Solution" and read about all the challenges my body is faced with after eating this much meat and dairy -- then it hit me! Could that be the reason I feel tired and sluggish? I know it is definitely the reason I am constipated and I haven't been constipated in forever! And, my lower back was hurting me so much, I didn't want to do anything! It never even occurred to me that my lower back ache could be my kidneys being overworked from processing this much acidic meat and dairy!
I know, I KNOW better! What can I say, I would like this 20 pounds off tomorrow! But not at the risk of my health! Dr. McDougall says add the starch back into your diet and see how the pounds fall off. So this week I am eating healthy the Dr. McDougall way and I'll let you know how it goes! I am already feeling better, my energy is coming back, my system is getting back to normal and I get to eat whole wheat bread and corn and corn tortillias! All these starchy foods I was believing was adding to my weight gain!
Yesterday I had my Juice Plus complete shake with banana, peanut butter, rice milk and my ground flax seed, for lunch I had a Lentil "Sloppy Joes" on a whole wheat bun and for dinner a crock pot potato pizza and chocolate pudding for desert. I will weigh myself next Monday and let you know how it goes!
