OK, here we are! Ready, set, go!
Week 1 is Drink up!
"Water is the driving force of all nature." Leonardo da Vinci
Although water isn't a major source of vitamins or minerals, it is an important par of your diet and over all health. Roughly 60 to 70 percent of your body weight is water, and replenishing your body on a daily basis is vital to proper body function. Water helps to carry nutrients to your cells and is important in digestion. It provides a moist environment for ear, nose, and throat tissues while acting as a lubricant for joins and cushioning vital organs and tissues. Proper hydration helps to flush toxins from your system, keeps blood clean and skin soft and stretchy, and allows you to cool down when you become overheated (especially during exercise).
Drink an adequate amount of water each day to maintain a healthy level of hydration.
How much do you need? It varies from person to person, however, a rule of thumb is drink half your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 150 pounds, half that is 75 ounces, a little over 8 glasses!
Space out your water thoughout the day, drink a glass before every meal and snack.
Did you know?
Our bodies depend more on water than on food. depending on circumstances, temperature, and physical exertion, an individual can live as long as for to six weeks without food, but only three to five days without water!
